Batallón de San Patricio: the Irish Heroes of Mexico![]() In honor of St. Patrick's Day I figured I'd share a little about the Irish who fought for Mexico. This is the story of the San Patricios, who forever will be enshrined in Mexico's Hall of Honor. Visit the website at: www.stpatricksbattalion.org

Quote on article found on a blog
I came across this quote on the blog: "Further Left Forum" http://further-left-forum.blogspot.com/2008/03/san-patricio.html
Original comment: This article is not only history that tries to be obscured by the Americans, it is very revealing of Americas invader mentality. It also shows Mexicos (sic) attitude towards peace. - Animus Mundi
Apparently they had found my article online and cut-and-pasted it to their blog. They did give me credit for the article. I don’t know much about the Blog owner other than what their stated purpose is. According to their website their blog’s purpose is as follows.
“The purpose of The Further Left Library and associated Chat Room and Forum is to encourage support for oppressed people striking at causes of concerns as they see fit. The Library features neither evaluation of social or political models, news of current events, or opinions of which sources to believe or discount, leaving those for chat and forum interaction. What you will find are tools for moving further left.”
I’m not sure how I feel about their platform as I am mostly right-leaning in my political philosophies but I find it interesting that they took my article and incorporated into their left leaning advocacy. I wrote the paper to share my culture and my history with others in the hopes of fostering a clearer understanding of our cultural selves. I did not intend to make a political statement one way or another by this historical paper.
I am troubled by the perception that their cutting-and-pasting of my article into their blog somehow makes it look like I support their advocacy or that I submitted the article to their website. What is more disconcerting to me is that people tend to think of Mexicans as left leaning and although a significant portion are there are just as many that overall lean towards the right.
This is what I hope to share through the Internet, a data set where the media induced rhetoric is put aside and people get to know the real Mexico I know.
